The Russians are coming…to Conor Cafe

Conor Cafe is taking on a Russian flavour in February to celebrate the Lyric Theatre’s new production of Uncle Vanya.

Throughout the month, chef Craig Reid will be devising typical Russian dishes for the Specials Menu.

And on the play’s opening night – February 9th – every customer having dinner in the restaurant will be treated to a free Lemon Vodka sorbet with their meal. The Lyric’s version Uncle Vanya –  written by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov – has been adapted by Brian Friel and stars Conleth Hill.

“We’re really excited about the Lyric’s new production and decided to give people a taste of Russian cuisine,” Craig Reid explained. “The food tends to be quite warming and we thought it was ideal fare out during the last days of winter. All dishes will include locally sourced fresh ingredients so it will have an Irish twist on Russian classics.”

Main courses will include a different choice each night but will include Beef Stroganoff using matured Northern Irish beef slow cooked with a hint of mustard; fresh fish of the day roasted with beetroot and fennel with a Russian courgette pancake; and Buckwheat Kasha with a spiced pork chop accompanied by a candied apple and vodka compote.
