Mums and babies flock to Movie House for special screenings. The Movie House, Glengormley has launched its own version of Baby’s Day Out by introducing special monthly movie screenings for parents and new babies.

Around 40 mums and their new borns turned up at the cinema today to watch a screening of the Jennifer Aniston rom com, Just Go With It.

And for once they weren’t afraid that their little ones’ cries might upset other cinema-goers.

The idea was hatched when health visitor for Glengormley Community Services Sinead Lynch approached Movie House manager Gabrielle Smyth  to see if the cinema could be opened up for new mums and their babies.

“Gabrielle just took it up and took over from me. I’d like to thank the Movie House for agreeing to it. The mums are all very excited are about it,” she said.

Gabrielle said: “We understand how hard it is to see a movie when you have a young baby so we thought it was a great idea to have monthly movie screenings where you can bring baby along and no-on will shush you!
“We had all mums here today but we would like to extend a welcome to all of the dads out there who stay at home looking after the little one,” she added.

Lorna Reynolds from North Belfast, who was there with her son Rhys, thought it was a great idea.
“It is fantastic to be able to get out of my house and stop watching kids TV for a little while. I am breast feeding so it is great to be able to bring Rhys along and not worry about making up bottles and leaving him with someone else.”

Nicola Gallagher from Glengormley agreed: “It is great to get out and meet other mums and socialise with them. It used to be all about mother and toddler groups but there are more and more mother and baby groups.”

Michelle McGuigan from Ballyclare added: “It is good that mums can get out with their babies and not feel that we are a nuisance to other people. It gives you a chance to speak to other mums and exchange stories.”
The cost of the screening is £3.25 per parent. For more information go to www.moviehouse.co.uk or ring Glengormley on 02890833424.
